Learn To Scuba Dive2023-02-04T15:42:18+00:00

Start your adventure of exploring the underwater world.

The Open Water Scuba diver course gives you the skills and knowledge to breathe underwater! The course covers equipment use, dive planning and execution, and emergency procedures. After completion, you will be qualified to dive with a buddy in open water environments (like the ocean or lakes) within certian parameters.

Scuba Divers

What’s involved?

eLearning

The online course gives you the background knowledge to be a diver. It will answer questions about wildlife, safety, and equipment. This course can be done whenever you want, on any device. It takes people a few hours to complete and includes videos, text and online quizzes.

Pool

The pool gives us a chance to practice in shallow and clear water. We’ll work on basic diving techniques and emergency skills. By the end of our time in the pool you’ll be confident and excited for the open water!

Open Water

To finish up, we’ll hit the open water to see underwater wildlife and use our new skills! This part of the course takes place over 2 days and we will usually try to mix the sites up some. Typically the Blue Heron Bridge, or a similar shore accessed site is used for the first day and a local boat charter for the second day.

While all courses are private and custom to you and your schedule, the general course flow is something like the below.

  • Towel
  • Lots of water
  • Light snacks
  • Sunscreen – reef safe preferably

Open Water Training

  • Small drybag for personal items
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Light snacks
  • Towel
  • Reef safe sunscreen
  • Sunglasses/hat
  • Rain jacket or boat jacket for cold days
  • Cash for crew gratuities

As an entry level course there are some items you’ll want to purchase for personal comfort. These items must be scuba grade. Most “snorkel packs” aren’t the quality you want for diving. I’m more than happy to recommend local dive centers as well as meet you at a dive center for fitting assistance. Local dive centers are 100% the best for buying gear. We have lots in South Florida so the selection should accommodate all. If you own equipment already that is awesome!

  • Mask
  • Snorkel
  • Fins
  • Boots
  • Mesh bag

It is super easy to waste money on dive gear. I don’t profit from dive gear so my advice is purely for your benefit. Please let me know if/what you plan to purchase so I can offer assistance.

Items we will be renting:

  • Dive Computer
  • Regulator
  • BCD
  • Wetsuit

To establish your BCD and wetsuit size you will need to get fitted for a wetsuit at a local shop. .

  • Tuition
  • Online training access
  • Diver’s logbook
  • Equipment Rentals

After your open water course is completed you’re a card carrying scuba diver! It’s time to dive. You will quickly find that there are more dive sites just out of reach. Maybe you see a shipwreck that’s a little too deep, or realize you’re ending dives because of NDLs. Learning to dive deeper or use Nitrox are the first two paths most new divers take.
